How we work

How are we different?

We are a social enterprise. This means we exist to make the world better rather than for profit.  Alongside our work with clients, we invest in Inspire projects to help build a future that is kind, connected and joyful.

We are also a teal organisation. This means we are run on the principles of self-management, purpose and bringing our whole selves to our work. It is a model that allows us to work together, pool our skills and be greater than the sum of our parts.

Our expertise lies in understanding how change in healthcare works, how people collaborate and how to use creative processes to change cultures.

Here’s what you get when you work with us

We work in partnership with our clients to co-design how best to meet their goals.

Our multi-disciplinary team includes clinicians, policy makers, NHS managers, specialists in research and evaluation, communications and digital technology, and more.

  • Smart people who care. With backgrounds in health, research, communications and finance, one thing we all have in common is a commitment to making healthcare better by delivering excellent work.
  • Integrity and quality. We are a mission driven organisation. We live our values, so we are constantly learning and improving our practice to evolve and exceed expectations.  We’re here to improve health and care and we are resolute about our commitment to quality.
  • Lasting impact. Change doesn’t happen overnight, so that’s why we put so much effort into bringing people together, building cultures of trust and devolving power so that every project will stand the test of time.

Our impact

Here is some of the feedback we have had about our work.

“The team at Kaleidoscope and the Nuffield Trust has helped us take our approach to user-led design to a new level, one on which we will build for the future. They also brought us valuable insights from their depth of experience in hospital design. They helped us think in different ways and were a pleasure to work with.”

Matthew Tully, Director of Redevelopment at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

“Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity is an impact-led organisation: we want to improve the lives of people living in urban areas. Evaluation and learning is a vital part of maximising the impact we can achieve. We are pleased to be working with Kaleidoscope who are delivering a rigorous, innovative and impactful approach to learning across our complex urban health programmes.”

Jackie Harrison, Head of Impact and Evaluation at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity

“Kaleidoscope Health and Care used a rigorous approach to develop a comprehensive case study of the National Children and Young People’s Diabetes Network and showcase its learnings. The team used an effective blend of interviews and workshops to enable network leaders to reflect on the network’s progress and evaluate its achievements. The team at Kaleidoscope has extensive knowledge and experience in network design, support and evaluation and brought this to bear to develop a thorough and highly engaging report.”

Oli Smithson, Programme Manager at The Health Foundation

“Working with Kaleidoscope on our programme evaluation has been a true exercise in partnership – their unique approach to co-design has resulted in a high quality piece of work, using a process that has been both fun and constructively challenging. We have been encouraged to think differently, creatively and have enjoyed working with every member of the team to produce a high quality, credible evaluation.”

James Dunphy, Senior Programme Lead ‑ MSK Clinical Champions, Versus Arthritis

“It was joyful, inspiring, practical, interesting and fun and I believe will help me to work better.”

Kaleidoscope working practices

Kaleidoscope is committed to minimising the impact of its activities on the environment. It is also committed to promoting ethically responsible ways of working. Our policies outlining our position and how we uphold our standards in these areas are available on request.

Kaleidoscope salaries

Kaleidoscope’s highest salary cannot exceed four times its lowest salary.

People at Kaleidoscope ‘own’ their salary. When they join, a Kaleidoscoper is made a salary offer based on their skills and experience. That salary is transparent within the organisation. They must seek advice from others but the decision about how much they should be paid is theirs.
