David Haslam

At Kaleidoscope David supports senior teams to tackle challenges and to reflect on the underlying causes that create them.

David was a GP in Cambridgeshire for many years. He has written 13 books, mainly on health topics, and he has also written thousands of articles for health and mainstream press outlets.

For several years he was listed in the Health Service Journal as one of the most influential people in the NHS, and in 2014 he was named by Debrett’s and the Sunday Times as one of the most influential people in the UK.

Over the course of his career, David has been Chair of the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), President of the British Medical Association, and both Chair and President of the RCGP.  He has also been National Clinical Adviser to both the Care Quality Commission and the Healthcare Commission. He currently chairs the Trustee Board for the children’s cancer charity CLIC Sargent, and is a Non-Executive Director of Dorset University NHS Foundation Trust.

David was awarded a CBE in 2004 for services to health care, and in 2019 he was knighted for services to NHS leadership.

If he had not gone into medicine David would like to have been a Test Match Special commentator or a travel journalist.
